Iraqi Turkmen observed the thirty-third anniversary of the massacre at the Tuz Khurmatu and Taza Khurmatu bridges on the morning of March 28, 1991, during which members of the Turkmen community were targeted by the former regime in Kirkuk.
The ceremonies, organized by the Kirkuk Qushla Association for Political Prisoners and the families of martyrs of the Iraqi Turkmen, under the auspices of the head of the Iraqi Turkmen Front, Hassan Turan, took place on Thursday, March 28, 2024, with official, political, and popular attendance.
During the ceremonies, Turan delivered a speech in which he recalled the tragic events and the targeting of members of the community in the most brutal ways. The head of the Iraqi Turkmen Front affirmed that the victims and martyrs of the Tuz Khurmatu bridges were subjected to the worst practices of identity-based killings, and their sacrifices are a source of pride and honor in the Turkmen cause.
Turan reiterated that the Turkmen will continue to defend their national and ethnic sanctities.
